Just recently published by Caraïbéditions, a new biography (in French) by Esther Eloidin offers a fresh and in-depth look at Jacques Schwarz-Bart’s life and creative journey. Drawing on extensive research and direct conversations, Eloidin explores the intersection of music, memory, and legacy within the artist’s personal and professional path.
The book includes a prologue by Roland Brival and a central photo notebook with archival images, annotated scores, and unpublished material. It also features reflections from Jacques on the work of his parents—André and Simone Schwarz-Bart—and the influence their writing has had on his thinking and art.
More than a biography, this is a document of transmission—of artistic lineage, Creole identity, and musical exploration—written by a scholar whose expertise in Caribbean music and oral traditions sheds unique light on Jacques’s work. Hence, its title: Schwarz-Bart, from literature to music – Itinerary of jazzman Jacques Schwarz-Bart.
